TWO Rockingham elite sailors Andrew (15) and Murray Buchan (13) flew to Singapore this week to compete in their first international sailing event.

The Regatta is hosted by the Singapore Sailing Federation and runs from Thursday, September 14 to Sunday, September 17 in the Marina Bay.

The event will be contested by invited teams from all over the world to match race for the Marina Bay Cup 2017.

This is the first time the Comet Bay College students have been selected to represent Australia.

Sailing out of Fremantle, the pair usually sail three days a week on the two man 49er men’s Olympic skiff, but will swap their usual boat for the larger SM40 in Singapore.

The six-man team representing Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club have been preparing since May for the event.

“We are excited to be invited to compete in international match racing and are looking forward to the challenge,” Andrew said.

“The pair began sailing seven years ago in Rockingham at The Cruising Yacht Club on Saturday mornings.”
