Barber a cut above: His Lid, Subiaco

Rosanna CandlerWestern Suburbs Weekly

Ms Harvey opened her Subiaco gentlemen’s barbershop His Lid on Sheen Street last month.

“I thought of the name about five years ago and I have been dreaming about opening my first shop ever since,” she said.

“It comes from the old expression of ‘lid’ as your head, which I think is fitting.”

With more than 150 barbershops opening in the United Kingdom last year alone, Ms Harvey said she knew it was the right time to open His Lid.

“Guys these days want to be more creative with their look, rather than just the short back and sides,” she said.

“The clippers have come back in a really arty way.

“I find that blokes are a lot more clued up about what they want. I do a lot of beard sculpts and close shaves. Everything is about clean cut and precision.”

Ms Harvey said Subiaco was the ideal location for His Lid because it was close to the city with lots of younger, fashionable people moving into the area that were receptive to the “new generation of barbering”.

“I just had a really good gut instinct about Subiaco,” she said.

During November, Ms Harvey will donate all proceeds from beard and moustache trims to the Movember charity, raising money and awareness for men’s health issues.
