Zeus Street Greek a taste odyssey of epic proportions

Belinda CiprianoWestern Suburbs Weekly

THERE was a time where you would have to travel to the east coast to enjoy a taste of the Agean.

The options to dine Greek in Perth were as sparse as Aphrodite’s attire and average at best.

However, the additions of Brika and now Zeus Street Greek have me singing praises from Mt Olympus and thanking every Greek God in the universe for their arrival.

Smart, simple yet so delicious, Zeus Street Greek, a family-owned group of fresh-casual eateries, opened its first WA venture in Mt Lawley last month.

I visited last week to see what the fuss was about, but did not have to look long with the place almost full and a line out the door.

Surely, the punters could not be wrong or maybe the place was buzzing because it was still so new. Regardless, I took my place in the queue and checked out the menu.

Deciding on two “classic pitas”, I ordered the Uncle Tzimmy lamb ($13.50), Uncle Tzimmy pork ($11.50), feta and oregano chips – yia yia’s recipe of course ($9.50) – and Loukoumades ($8) for dessert.

Zeus, the “King of the Gods”, or in this case the “king of Greek cuisine”, is bringing modern Greek street food to the plate and they are doing it well.

I don’t know who “Uncle Tzimmy” is, but his pork and lamb pita classics were on point.

Slow cooked meat nestled on a fluffy pita with onion, tztaziki, tomato and paprika chips is happiness on a plate.

Teamed with golden chips and topped with feta and oregano, it is as perfect a pairing as Paris and Helen.

Dessert – Loukoumades (beautiful Greek doughnuts drizzled in honey, cinnamon and walnuts) was sweet, light and should be shared but is the best way to finish off the experience.

Zeus you Greek God, you’ve answered all my prayers.
