Cottesloe: car that crashed into sand dunes overnight abandoned

Jon BassettWestern Suburbs Weekly

A CAR has been abandoned in sand dunes after crashing near the Napier Street carpark in Cottesloe overnight.

“They’ve just gone full tilt and gone over the edge,” Cottesloe Surf Life Saving Club patroller Tom Van Beemtold Western Suburbs Weekly.

The 1990 white Toyota Corolla hatchback was empty, and a member of the public reported it to the lifesavers about 6.15am.

However, there are fears for the health of anyone who may have been in the vehicle.

The car appeared to have been travelling south on Marine Parade, before it went over the median strip just before the carpark, creating visible gouges in the northbound lanes.

Its path narrowly missed a large norfolk pine on the verge, before travelling south on the dune-top footpath, through fencing and sliding down the recently restored dunes.

Police have been called by lifesavers.
