Collegians vice president Alastair Duckett said Mr Cusack, who he coached to a premiership in 2010, had been a great friend.

“His smile and laughter was infectious and he had the ability to make conversation with any stranger and have them laughing instantly,” he said.

“From a club perspective, he was a great clubman, premiership player, coach and recent sponsor and it’s such a tragic loss as the Cusack family is very close to the heart at Collegians.”

Mr Duckett said the club would name an upcoming fixture in his honour, although no details have yet been locked in.

Collegians’ will next take to the field to play Kelmscott at Dalkeith Oval this Saturday.

Police are investigating the death, which happened about 8.30pm on Saturday night.

Mr Cusack was reportedly sitting on the back of a sofa chair on the balcony of the hotel’s second floor when he lent back.

Police believe he fell through a plastic cafe blind to the ground below.
