Fringe Festival: La Soiree returns with a brand new show

Lisa ThomasWestern Suburbs Weekly

LA SOIREE will return to this year’s Fringe World Festival in Cathedral Square, with a brand new show in the Edith Spiegeltent.

Among the tantalising list of new acts and old favourites for the show’s third season in Perth, the stunning Valerie Murzak will showcase her dazzling contortion and hand balance mirror ball act.

The Moscow-born performer, who now lives in London, is the daughter of two circus artists and grew up travelling the world and performing from the age of six.

Valerie said she had been performing routines with a ball from a young age, but it was on a night out in London where she had the idea to use a mirror ball.

“I grew up in the circus and when I was 10 I started performing a routine with my dad using a ball,” she said.

“Three years ago I was on a night out and I saw a giant disco ball hanging from the roof and I couldn’t get it out of my head, so I decided to have one made and use it in my show.”

It is the performer’s first time at Fringe and visiting Perth, and she said she had plans to check out some of WA’s famous beaches over the next month.

“La Soiree is a very popular show and I feel very honoured and excited to be part of it,” she said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of other shows while I’m here and seeing a bit of Perth.”
