The pair were chosen following a rigorous selection process led by Fever coach, and the club’s inaugural captain, Stacey Marinkovich.

“I’m passionate about representing Fever and firmly committed to establishing ourselves as a benchmark within this competition, both on and off the court,” she said.

“I will work alongside Stacey (Marinkovich) and Verity to influence positive change in our environment but ultimately it will be a collaborative and united approach to leadership with everybody playing an important role.”

Marinkovich said Medhurst was the ideal candidate to guide a new group of netballers.

“The role of West Coast Fever captain possesses a rich history and we believe Nat will make a significant contribution to that narrative, as not only has she been a great player for Fever, she’s also been a tremendous leader, at domestic and international level,” she said.

“Both Nat and Verity live all the values we talk about when it comes to being a West Coast Fever player whenever they take the court, and their example will play a pivotal role in establishing the culture that will guide this club to success.”

“Their leadership styles will both complement and challenge each other, ultimately empowering the entire group to drive our Club forward.”

The 2017 Suncorp Super Netball season kicks off against the Adelaide Thunderbirds on February 19.

The Club’s first home game will be a Friday night blockbuster on March 3 against the Queensland Firebirds at their new home venue, Perth Arena.
