Nedlands: The Byrneleigh Hotel revamped as The Resident

Bryce LuffWestern Suburbs Weekly

AN experienced team of restaurateurs from Sydney is set to have a closed Nedland’s watering hole re-opened as The Resident on Saturday night.

Owner Donnacha Reidy (Fox and Lion Hotel, Kitty O’Shea’s Irish Bar, and the Republic Hotel) and venue manager Matthew Barge (Paper Planes, LL Wine and Dine, and Regatta Rose Bay), together with local chef Grant Greyling, say the transformation of the old Byrneleigh Hotel will bring a fresh approach to Perth’s bar scene.

More than $600,000 has been spent on the revamp.

When up and running, the venue will feature a crisp white interior over two levels, together with an outdoor terrace shadowed by a boab tree.

On offer will be coffee, breakfast and brunch from a mini breakout called the Little Resident.

The venue will then open for lunch, dinners and drinks, with the bar to feature a handpicked selection of wines, cocktails and beers.

Mr Reidy said The Resident would offer value for money.

Mr Greyling, formerly of Jamie’s Italian in Perth, said he did not take much convincing to get on board.

“What they wanted to develop with the venue and the idea behind being part of the residence in the area, and not just an entity within it, made me feel like that’s a part of who I am,” he said.

“I like community and the ability to give back and work together.”

Mr Greyling said the venue would start with Italian-Mediterranean style dishes with an added punch.

“We’re working with nourishing, healthy and fresh ingredients,” he said.

“It gives people that option. It’s not just pub food.”
