The Specialists: band of top medical personnel to rock Summer Dance Party

Montana ArdonWestern Suburbs Weekly

ABOUT 35 years ago, some of WA’s top medical specialists rocked their way through medical school to help pay the bills.

Fast forward to now, and they treat anything from diseased hearts to stroke-affected brains.

Next month, they plan to swap stethoscopes for musical instruments once again, this time in the name of cancer research.

Called the Specialists, the band comprises endocrinologist Peter Leedman on the drums, cardiologist Steve Gordon as the lead guitarist, urologist Peter England on the keyboard, anaesthetist David Borshoff on vocals and guitar, neurologist Graeme Hankey on vocals and bass, and medical technologist Richard Dall on harp, vocals and saxophone.

The Specialists have been rehearsing for a Summer Dance Party on Saturday, March 11 at the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club.

Tickets are $125 per person and include food and drinks.

All funds raised will go to the MACA Ride to Conquer Cancer, which supports cancer research at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research.

Perkins director Professor Peter Leedman said the Specialists were preparing for their best performance yet.

“This is our fourth annual dance party and it gets better every year; both the event and the band,” he said.

“We play a lot of rock classics and I think there are songs in our repertoire that would entertain anyone.

“I’d encourage everyone to join us for what promises to be a fantastic night for a really worthy cause.”
