Montana ArdonWestern Suburbs Weekly

THREE of Western Australia’s leading young netballers have been selected in the 2017 under-21 national squad, ahead of the final team selection for the 2017 Netball World Youth Cup in Gaborone, Botswana.

West Coast Fever listed athletes Jessica Anstiss and Annika Lee-Jones have been named in the squad, alongside Fever training partner Sophie Garbin.

Anstiss has been a regular starter in the West Coast Fever line-up, and has played outstanding games against world-class opponents in recent weeks, while Lee-Jones made her National League debut in round 6 when she lined up against Caitlin Bassett.

Garbin has had an outstanding Australian Netball League season, smashing the record for most goals in a season, while being named MVP in last weekend’s gold medal match.

Netball WA chief executive Simon Taylor congratulated the players on their selection.

“It’s fantastic to see Jess, Sophie and Annika’s outstanding performances in 2017 acknowledged with national selection,” Taylor said.

“We are incredibly proud of our West Australian athletes, and this selection demonstrates the strength of our player pathways in our State.

“I know that all three athletes will continue to push for selection in the Australian World Youth Cup Team.”

The Australian World Youth Cup Team will be named in May.
