MORE than 100 competitors are expected at the Rottnest Surf Festival from next Friday.

“These exciting surfing competitions are an integral part of our calendar of events and attract visitors to our world class surf breaks,” Rottnest Island events co-ordinator Deone Van Der Westhuizen said.

Ms Van Der Westthuizen said consecutive surfing events were expected to bring visitors to the island during autumn.

The Pro Am Series features surfers including 2016 Open Men’s State Champion and first round winner at Margaret River Jerome Forrest.

The Rottnest Classic for SUP boarders is the largest prize for the sport in WA, and will feature the defending men’s and women’s champions Kai Bates from NSW and Queensland’s Shakira Westdorp respectively.

WA SUP talent includes current Over-40 Australian Champion Rick Jakovich from Gracetown, former AFL player Dave Muir from Fremantle, and Bicton youngster Wes Fry.
