A Kids Tennis Day where children aged 16 and under get free entry with a paying adult will kick-start the tournament on December 28 and feature SpongeBob SquarePants and player autograph signing.

There will be airconditioned areas outside Perth Arena with TV screens and a schedule of players hitting on the practice court will also be released.

Sam Stosur and Bernard Tomic will represent Australia, while Tommy Robredo and Anabel Medina Garrigues will play for defending champions Spain.

Former player Alicia Molik said a guaranteed three singles games had attracted Stosur to Perth.

Molik said Australia had a good chance of making the final.
