Tennis: State Tennis Centre to host blockbuster weekend of matches

THE State Tennis Centre will host a blockbuster for local tennis on Friday night.

At 5.30pm, there will be the US$25,000 Perth International Pro Tour women’s doubles final and Mosman Park and Higgins Park will play their men’s State League fixture from 6pm.

Pro Tour matches so far have included five Australian girls in the international field comprising 33 countries.

Viktoria Kuzmova of Slovakia beat Australian Olivia Rogowska 6-2 6-3, Alize Lim from France beat wildcard Abbie Myers (NSW) 6-1 6-1 and wildcard Priscilla Hon from Brisbane recovered from a slow start losing the first set 4-6 to Naiktha Bains, to come back 6-1 6-4.

The Pro Tour is sponsored by Tennis West and Tennis Australia and provides a great opportunity for players to earn first world ranking points.

National Academy coach Tom George will interview Perth-based John Peers before the State League match.

Peers is an Australian Open doubles winner and recent Davis Cup hero.

He has had a sensational summer following his World Doubles Championship win in London.

Gates open at 4.30pm and entry is free.
