CLAREMONT Football Club midfield stars Jye Bolton and Ryan Lim say players are using the bye week to increase their fitness levels ahead of their push for a finals birth.

Bolton (25) and Lim (21) are averaging more than 25 disposals in their 15 games played in the WAFL this year.

The seventh-placed Tigers will play sixth-placed East Perth at Claremont Oval next Saturday, July 29.

Both teams sit on 24 points and are just one game outside the top five.

Bolton, the reigning Sandover medallist and Tigers best and fairest, said players understood what they needed to do to prepare well during the week off.

“It gives some guys a chance to rest up and launch into the last few games of the season and it gives other blokes a bit of a chance to up their fitness over the break and increase productivity for the back end (of the season),” he said.

“We have been really trying to up our contested ball, our pressure and our hunt around the footy and just trying to turn it over as close as we can in front of our goal; that is what we will be focusing on mainly.”

Bolton said the Royals team changed regularly as it was dependent on West Coast Eagles’ selection process.

“We don’t really mind who gets selected or whatever, we will prepare and play our own game as it is and keep on improving areas that we pride ourselves on,” he said.

Lim said the fixture worked in the Tigers’ favour.

“In the last five games we play, everyone else that is close to us on the ladder,” he said.

“That will be a real good test for us if we win those games, it will prove that we do deserve to make finals but on the flipside if we lose, we probably do not deserve to make it.”
