FORRESTFIELD family daycare educator Susan Olson is a winner in the regional rounds of the Excellence in Family Day Care awards.

The mother-of-three, who cares for children in her home, said news of the nomination came as a huge surprise.

“It’s very humbling… I haven’t been able to find out who nominated me,” she said.

“I do what I do because I’m passionate about family daycare.”

Family Day Care Australia chief executive Andrew Paterson said educators held a special place in the hearts of the families who nominated them.

“To be named regional winner is recognition of Susan’s dedication to providing quality early childhood education, but also to the wonderful and unique relationship between educators like Susan and the children in their care,” he said.

Mrs Olson is a qualified educator registered with Elite Family Day Care.

She will represent the eastern region in the state final.

Family Day Care Australia received more than 80 nominations for the regional heats, shortlisted to 12 finalists, with one representative chosen for each region.

State and national winners to be announced in November will share in more than $20,000 worth of prizes, including educational resources and training packages.
