A MAN has died after he rescued his son from a fire at their home in rural Western Australia.

St John Ambulance say the man, aged in his late 70s, entered the burning Gilgering property to save his adult son on Sunday night as neighbours reported the blaze to emergency services.

The man, who is believed to have suffered from a heart condition, collapsed before being rushed to York Hospital where he died a short time later.
