Police officer dies on duty after motorcycle crash

A WA Police officer died on duty today after his motorcycle struck a tree in West Toodyay.

The officer was riding his police motorcycle on Julimar Road near Toodyay Road about 1.30pm today, when it left the road and hit a tree.

Two of his fellow officers and paramedics provided emergency first aid at the scene.

The officer died from his injuries.

Immediate family have been notified and police chaplains are providing support to them and the officer’s colleagues.

Major Crash are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This investigation will be assisted by the Internal Affairs Unit and Worksafe.

Police Commissioner Chris Dawson said he was deeply saddened by the death of one of his fellow officers and his thoughts were with the officer’s family and his colleagues.
