The Shire of Mundaring and the City of Swan have joined forces to help prepare residents for the bushfire season.
Their joint efforts will be showcased at the Gidgegannup Show tomorrow.
Mundaring Shire President David Lavell said he was pleased the two organisations could come together to share their knowledge and expertise and work together to develop strategies to increase the level of community fire preparedness.
“Making sure people are prepared for as many bushfire scenarios as possible is imperative to their safety and an issue common to both councils,” he said.
“We will be using the joint display to focus on different aspects of preparation in the lead-up to and during the bushfire season.”
City of Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said the joint display at the annual Gidgegannup Show was the perfect forum for the community to learn about how they could better protect themselves, their family and their property in the event of a bushfire.
“This includes how to properly maintain building protection zones, reduce fuel loads, the importance of having an emergency kit and a practised fire plan in place,” he said.
“Unfortunately emergencies don’t always occur when we are best placed to respond, so we need to prepare our communities to be ready and resilient and plan for alternative scenarios.”
