SWAN Hills MLA Frank Alban said community consultation played an important role during the planning phase of the $8.1 million upgrade to the Mundaring Wastewater Treatment Plant.
He also congratulated the Water Corporation for completing the project on schedule.
Improvements to the plant included a new inlet work, odour collection and treatment facilities, and an upgraded reuse water delivery system.
Mr Alban said the upgrade increased capacity of the plant to treat up to 240 kilolitres of wastewater a day.
“The great news about this upgrade is that treated water from the plant will allow increased water reuse on local community sports ovals and a nearby equestrian centre during summer.
“This project is another fantastic example of where treated water can be put to good use by keeping our public open spaces green, while reducing reliance on scheme water.”
The recently completed works began at the plant in January last year.
Mr Alban thanked the community for their input and ongoing co-operation throughout the upgrade to the plant, originally commissioned in 1997.
