Having only taken up art over the last couple of years, she said her love of dogs and a spontaneous approach to art inspired her work.

“I did that in a workshop and it was 3D mixed media piece, we were using all these different mediums and techniques I hadn’t used before and in all honesty, it just evolved,” she said.

“I did the background first, then I did the paper bit and started filling the gaps to give it more dimension with pastels. I did a bit of acrylics as well.

The exhibition kicks off with a cocktail gala to announce the award winner for the adult and youth categories on Friday.

The exhibition will be on display at the City of Canning Civic and Administration Centre between 10am-3pm from 11-19 August. Entry is free.
