ELYSIUM is EXCITING sci-fi

Staff ReporterCanning Gazette

Much as he did earlier, the imaginative South African writer/director runs an underlying theme of class segregation throughout a science fiction setting.

The cast brings mixed results: Matt Damon is a solid, likeable hero; Jodie Foster as the Minister intent on protecting Elysium’s borders confuses with an overdone performance and a bizarre accent and Sharlto Copley’s portrayal of the baddie on Max’s tail is genuinely terrifying.

Sci-fi films offering food for thought are few and far between ” not even Pacific Rim managed to resonate ” so Elysium is a refreshing and exciting time at the movies.
