Ben SmithCanning Gazette

THERE is a flurry of excitement at Excelsior Primary School this week as students get set to perform their first ever musical to three sold-out audiences.

Students will perform Seussical, The Musical Jr. at Canning Vale College on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night for the school’s annual Arts Night.

Based on the stories by Dr Seuss, the show features classic characters such as The Cat in the Hat and Horton the Elephant and other favourites performed by the 55 cast members.

Deputy principal Simone Hall said the musical had been a major focus of the school’s year, with auditions taking place back in term one.

“Students and staff across the school have been teaching and learning choreography and attending rehearsals, as well as being involved with set designs, creating colourful costumes, vibrant sets and stage prop pieces while learning about the wonderful world through the eyes of Dr Seuss,” she said.

“Our musical will not only promote the outstanding work being carried out in this curriculum area but it will also showcase the tremendous talents of our students.”
