ARTIST Mary Lange’s vibrant and uplifting art will be on display at the Alfred Cove Art Society awards of excellence from August 22.

Born in Trinidad in the West Indies, Lange immigrated with her family to Perth in 1973 and has been practising art since 1976.

Her colourful mixed media paintings adorn the walls of her Shelley home and reflect her background, depicting life in the Caribbean.

“When I start a work I automatically look for colour. I put colour into everything. I like work that flows, that develops into something unexpected.”

After completing an advanced certificate in art and design at Tafe, Lange attended further art courses at Fremantle Art Centre and it was then she developed an interest in mixed media.

In 2010 Lange, who has exhibited in Trinidad and Perth, joined Alfred Cove Art Society and has participated in society activities and exhibitions winning awards and selling her art.

This year her painting Coastal Colours will be on display at the 2017 awards exhibition at Atwell Gallery from Tuesday, August 22 to Sunday, August 27.

The awards were established in 2000.
