‘The goal of this contest is to locate a role model that exemplifies womanhood,’ she said.

‘It is an opportunity to promote ourselves, voice opinions, get involved, network, promote a special cause, fulfil personal goals, achieve dreams and most importantly live the moment.’

Originally from Malaysia, Ms Rekhraj moved to Perth four years ago and said she experienced difficulty in adjusting to her new home but had now emerged a stronger woman.

‘I gave myself a make-over because I wanted to change for the best and I did it,’ she said.

‘Until a few months back, I would have never thought of joining a pageant.

‘I am participating in the event because it will give me a platform to showcase myself, be confident and achieve new heights.

‘It will help to encourage girls like me to come up and be confident.’

Ms Rekhraj said she was confident of achieving success in the event.

‘There will be tough competition on stage during the pageant but nothing is going to shake my motivation and distract me from winning the crown,’ she said.

‘I will give it my best and make Perth proud.’

Miss India Quest will be held at the Village Green Hotel in Melbourne on March 1.
