Audit of past year finds one non-compliance issue at City of Canning

A CITY of Canning audit for last year found one non-compliance when a contract was awarded without a competitive tender process for a purchase over $150,000.

The breach relates to section 3.57 of Local Government Act 995 when multiple purchase orders under the contract accumulated to $172,638 excluding GST.

The audit is on the agenda at tomorrow’s full council meeting.

Once the 2017 Compliance Audit Return has been presented to the council, the chief executive will submit a certified copy of the return, together with a copy of the relevant section of the minutes to the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries.

An internal audit in May last year recommended improved tracking of contract expenditure and a centralised contract register which should prevent similar overspends in future.

The City is undertaking these and other improvement, the audit said, including implementation of a new business management system to ensure compliance in the future.
