The concert will feature a variety of brass band music, including classics from Andrew Lloyd Webber, film music from Pirates of the Caribbean, classical music by Malcolm Arnold and Sibelius and traditional brass band music.

The concert also includes original composition The First Forty by tuba player John Parker.

Members of the recently disbanded St John Ambulance band formed the Canning City Brass Band (formerly Canning Civic Band) in 1974. Its first gig was at Carols by Candlelight.

The band has now expanded to about 30 active members, with the youngest being 17 years old and the oldest 74.

President Wiebe Wilbers said the band had done well over past decades.

‘Aside from our recent championship win, the band has played a few very high profile gigs in the past, including Government House when Princess Anne visited in 1984, the opening of the Perth International Airport, and interstate tours to Adelaide, Launceston, Brisbane, Newcastle and Melbourne,’ he said.

‘Most of all, the band enjoys playing for its most loyal of supporters right here in Perth.’
