Bill Shorten pledges $10.9 million towards Bentley Hospital upgrades

BENTLEY Hospital could be set to reap the rewards of a Labor victory at next year’s Federal election following a funding pledge from Opposition Leader Bill Shorten.

Mr Shorten today promised $10.9 million for the health campus, provided Labor win the upcoming election.

The Opposition Leader took a brief tour of the hospital alongside Premier Mark McGowan and candidate for the seat of Swan Hannah Beazley before he announced the proposed funding

He labelled the hospital a “precious community resource” in need of some well-overdue upgrades.

“This hospital is showing a little bit of its age and we want to make sure the people in this community who pay their taxes to Canberra get their fair share of taxes re-invested in health care,” he said.

Mr McGowan said the proposed upgrades would represent an important boost to the current services in the east metropolitan region.

“This will mean maternity services, mental health services and aged care services here at the hospital will have a significant improvement,” he said.

“This hospital services Victoria Park, Cannington and Bentley itself but also further a field, areas like Wilson and Belmont.”
