THE Canning City Brass band will showcase their contest pieces to the public on Sunday ahead of the national championships in Melbourne at Easter.

The band will perform at the Canning Town Hall Sunday afternoon at 2pm.

Its 30 members will soon travel east to compete against 12 other bands in the B-Grade section of the Yamaha National Band Championships at Xavier College in Kew.

President Wiebe Wilbers said the band had been working hard to bring their best to the competition.

“We plan to open a few eyes (and ears) over east by showing what proud West Aussies can do,” Mr Wilbers said.

According to musical director Matthew Baker, the band will play four pieces on stage including a predetermined ‘test’ piece and will participate in a street march.
