THE Canning City Lions Club has answered a call to arms and left flowers in selected areas to encourage people to register as organ and tissue donors.
Lions clubs across Perth are taking part in the Petals for PlusLife campaign this week to raise awareness about organ and tissue donation.
Throughout the week, clubs left small jars of flowers in various prominent locations, including Lo Quay River Cafe in Riverton, to encourage people to pay the gift forward by registering as a donor.
Canning City Lions Club president Christine Walker said it was important to remind people about the importance of registering.
“Tissue donation can help up to 60 people, whereas organ donation can help 10 people,” she said.
“This is a simple grassroots concept which helps raise the profile of bone and tissue donation in our community.”
Last year, 634 West Australians received bone and tissue donations, but statistics show just 38 per cent of West Australians are registered donors.
