STAFF past and present from Canning College came together to celebrate the school’s 30th anniversary of offering international programs.

On May 18 1986, Canning College became the first government secondary school in Western Australia to enrol private fee-paying students from overseas.

To celebrate the milestone, special guests and dignitaries including Labor MLC Kate Doust and neuroscientist Lyn Beazley mingled with past students and the community.

Former deputy principal Trevor Gallagher discussed the school’s timeline in a keynote address while Burmese ex-student Mandy Tu reminisced about her experience in the college.

“I chose Canning College because it offered more university choices. I stuck with my decision and trusted it to give me a quality education. And it did,” she said.

“On top of that, I walked away with friendships and experiences far richer and far more valuable than I ever could have imagined.”
