Canning College mentor wins Secondary Principal of the Year award

A PERSONAL interest in the welfare and development of students has earned Canning College Principal Alan Genoni the title of Secondary Principal of the Year.

The annually announced award recognises the inspiring and challenging role of principals in secondary schools.

Nominated by staff, Mr Genoni was awarded for his guidance, and insight into a role that prepares students aged 18 and older for higher education.

Mr Genoni said seeing a student take on new opportunities because of their education was incredibly rewarding.

As principal of Canning College Mr Genoni took a personal interest in the welfare and development of all students.

His leadership has seen the school go from strength to strength and in 2015, the number of local students to achieve Australian Tertiary Admission Ranks equivalent to 90 and above almost doubled.

Mr Genoni was awarded $25,000.
