DOMESTIC students will no longer have access to Canning College from 2019 when it specialises in overseas fee-paying students.
Instead, the Department of Education will require local post-compulsory aged students to travel to Cyril Jackson Senior Campus in Bassendean, a further 18 minutes or 17km drive from Bentley, or North Lake Senior Campus which is 14km from Canning College.
Canning College has accepted overseas students for 30 years.
Compulsory aged local students may continue at the school in their catchment area, or they may apply to enrol at another secondary school but enrolment is not guaranteed, according to a Department of Education spokeswoman.
The State Government announced $64 million in education spending cuts from 2019, then back-flipped on a handful of the cuts.
The restriction of Canning College enrolment to overseas fee-paying students was among the cuts that remain.
