Canning Men’s Shed finds new home

Ben SmithCanning Gazette

CANNING Men’s Shed search for a new home may soon be resolved.

Shedders told the Canning Times in March they were looking for a new premises after more than a decade at Riverton Baptist Community Church.

The church, which permitted the group to stay for nearly five more years than initially intended, gave the Men’s Shed until June to move out.

Fortunately, the group has struck a deal to move into Centenary Pavilion in Wilson.

While they are unable to move in straight away, members expect to do so in the next two to three months.

Club secretary Ron Croager said he feared the group would have closed down had a new home not been found.

“If we’d not had anywhere to go and stored all the tools, people would’ve lose interest and it would’ve folded up,” he said.

“I thought once we left the church and didn’t have anywhere to go, impetus would be lost and the shed would be no more.

“We’re not far from where we were; it’s got a good catchment area, so we might entice newer members.”
