CANNING Sea Scouts are ready to set sail once more thanks to the arrival of some long overdue new equipment.

The troupe have received ten new sails, the first part of a substantial renewal program funded by grants to update sails for five boats and masts for two.

Assistant scout leader Kelvin Uren said the new sails were much-needed and would be used every weekend during sailing season, which runs from October-April.

“We have spent so much time repairing the old equipment over the last few years, but it was getting harder and harder,” he said.

“Some of the old sails and masts have been with us for decades, and even then they were bought or donated second hand.”

Canning Sea Scouts are currently welcoming new members from the ages of six (joey scouts), eight (cubs), 11 (scouts), 15 (venturers) and from 18 to age 26 (rovers).
