Canning Vale community in safe hands with new trial approach

Staff ReporterCanning Gazette

Senior Sergeant Simon Underwood (right) has taken over at Canning Vale for the six-month trial in WA’s busiest police district, and said he was familiar with the eastern suburbs.

‘I’m a Hills man from way back,’ he said.

He is also familiar with environments in which new suburbs border older Hills communities, having transferred from postings at Midland and Forrestfield.

Sgt Underwood said these followed 17 years spent at country stations including Leonora, Dunsborough, Busselton and Kalgoorlie before a return to Perth in search of a decent cappuccino.

He assured people in the Canning Vale subdistrict, which has had its boundaries altered for the length of the trial, that his priority was to use the four local police teams now under his command to improve links with the public.

‘Canning Vale is a very busy and diverse community with many different cultures, all with their own issues,’ he said.

‘It keeps us on our toes round the clock so I’m enjoying that.

‘My four team supervisors have all been at Canning Vale for a long time, so they’re conversant with the issues and we’ve hit the ground running.’

The station’s new Twitter address is @CanningValePol.
