Pia van StraalenCanning Gazette

CANNING Vale firefighter Steve Choate is among those putting their body on the line to fundraise for the burns unit at PMH and the soon to open Perth Children’s Hospital.

The highly sought after annual firefighters calendar features 14 Perth firefighters, including Mr Choate who features as the calendar’s December poster boy.

He said he jumped at the chance to raise money, and to pay it forward for the care a family member had received at PMH in his first year of life.

“Having a newborn nephew spend a large amount of time under the care of PMH in the first 12 months of his life, I’ve seen the impact that patient care makes, and that was more than enough inspiration for me to contribute through this year’s calendar,” Mr Choate said.

“If there was ever a section of our community that deserves our support for funding research and equipment then this is it.”

In the nine years the calendar has been in production it has raised more than $850,000 for vital research and equipment at the hospital’s burns unit, which treats thousands of children from across WA each year.

The 2017 calendar is now available for $15 from the Volunteer’s Kiosk at PMH, or online at www.pchf.org.au.
