Jessica NicoCanning Gazette

A CANNING Vale teenager is showing off her netball talents in Adelaide against some of the best young players in Australia.

Fifteen-year-old Montana Turnbull and her WA U15 netball teammates flew to South Australia late last week to compete in the annual Pacific School Games, a national competition showing the talents of young sports stars in almost a dozen sports.

Two rounds into the competition, WA had defeated the Budgies Indigenous Netball team 41-14 before accounting for the ACT 39-21.

Montana said she first started playing netball when she was in grade 2 and loved it so much she hadn’t stopped since.

“I love the game itself and enjoy playing with my friends and as I’ve gotten older I’ve enjoyed the opportunities to play at higher levels in representative teams,” she said.

“I was extremely happy and proud to find out that I had made the U15 state schoolgirls team as it had been my goal to do so since I trialled last year and missed out.

“I’m feeling very excited about the competition and I know that if we play as a team and to our potential we can hopefully win a medal and am hoping that’s it’s a gold one.”

The Pacific School Games finish on December 9.
