CANNINGTON Blood Donor Centre have appealed for ‘good eggs’ to come forward as they attempt to address low appointments in the lead up to Easter and Anzac Day.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service still needs 392 extra donors at the Cannington centre before the holidays to bolster their stocks.

Blood Service spokesperson Gina Tracey said Easter was one of the most challenging times of the year to collect blood.

She said people sparing just an hour of their time before the holidays could help save up to three lives.

“The need for blood never takes a break yet we know that donor numbers are traditionally low at Easter” she said.

“A component of blood called platelets has a shelf life of only five days, so it’s important that blood is donated over and immediately after the Easter break.

Ms Tracey said they particularly needed more donors on Easter Monday, when just 13 people were booked in to donate.
