FOODBANK WA has put a donation bin outside Woolworths in Carousel in a bid to encourage locals to donate to the cause.

Foodbank chief executive Greg Hebble said he was looking forward to commencing the large-scale food drive to help feed those who do not have access to, or the funds to afford, food for themselves and their families.

“The partnership between Westfield and Foodbank has come at a time when food insecurity is reaching crisis point across the state,” he said.

“We currently feed over 53,000 people every month however there are still too many people being turned away for our charity partners empty handed, due to the lack of available food, so we are very grateful to receive support from (shoppers).”

The campaign is aimed at raising large scale food donations to help feed families in need across the state, and the food collected will be redistributed to help feed those who are currently going without, so it really does make a difference.”

Throughout September, donations can be made at all Westfield shopping centres.
