Cannington Santa’s Workshop elves get ready to make Christmas brighter for kids in need

THE elves at Cannington’s Santa’s Workshop are making their lists, and checking them twice in the lead up to Christmas, as the volunteer organisation prepares to donate thousands of gifts to children in need.

Working out of Seven Oak Senior Campus all year round, dozens of volunteers hand make wooden toys, restore old toys and wrap gifts for youngsters who are cared for through not-for-profit organisations.

Workroom supervisor Delys Barry said volunteers were working hard in the lead up to November, the ‘hand over’ date for about 2500 gifts ahead of Christmas Day.

“We have wonderful volunteers who help this happen every year, and we are happy to be part of making Christmas Day memorable for young people who could otherwise go without,” she said.

A drop in donations has not resulted in fewer toys this year, but Mrs Barry put the call out to the community to make a donation where possible.

“Toys, books, board games are all items we can restore, anything in reasonable condition because we work magic here to restore them,” Mrs Barry said.

Items not needed include bikes, oversized toys or baby furniture.
