City of Canning coffee lovers can be environmentally friendly thanks to these local cafes

COFFEE lovers can be environmentally friendly and save simply by forgoing their usual takeaway cup and replacing it with a reusable option.

Cafes all across the metropolitan area are offering customers a range of discounts if they choose to bring in their own environmentally friendly option, including Canning River Cafe in Wilson, which offers coffee drinkers 50 cents off when they use a reusable cup.

Assistant manager Madeline Lynch, of Ferndale, said the cafe was next to the Canning River Eco Education Centre, which encouraged the cafe in its adoption of the ‘bring your own cup’ discount initiative.

She said the cafe wanted to be more sustainable and as well as offering a 50 cent discount to customers, the cafe also sold reusable cups and its disposable coffee cups were made from material that was 95 per cent recyclable.

Ms Lynch said many customers had taken to the idea of bringing their own cups to the cafe for coffee and during the past 12 months she had seen a variety of cup styles used by customers for their cappuccinos and lattes.
