THE former Cannington Bowling Club is set for a facelift, with the City of Canning promising to turn the site into a park with a difference.

Areas for pop-up operations such as commercial spaces, markets and food truck events and amenities like BBQs, basketball or tennis courts, toilets, an adventure playground and an outdoor cinema are all potential options for the George Street West site, across the road from the Civic Administration Building.

A draft community engagement plan is currently in development to guide the next steps of the project and provide community feedback.

Mayor Paul Ng said engaging with the community was vital to the project’s success and they wanted the new park to improve the area’s vibrancy.

“This site is capable of delivering so many wonderful elements to our community and it’s really important that the community has input on what they’d ultimately like to see happen to this area,” he said.

Community engagement on the Civic Centre Gardens Masterplan will take place in September/October 2018 with a final Council decision for the site expected in mid-2019.
