Cold-hearted theft leaves business bare

Staff ReporterCanning Gazette

The 2.4m foam and steel bear disappeared from the front of Welshpool Ice Works on the night of Friday, August 16 and Mr Watson wants the public’s help to find him.

‘He is kind of a landmark for the business,’ he said. ‘He had hooks on his paws to hold a sign and I would change the message regularly.

‘People would come in and want to have their photo taken with him for bucks or hens nights.

‘We have had him for three years. He was sculpted by Rob Hancock, who sculpted the footballers at Fremantle.’

Mr Watson said it would have taken quite an effort to take the company mascot.

‘He is eight feet tall and they had to remove him from a concrete and steel base,’ Mr Watson said.

‘They would have needed a ute or small truck and probably four guys to move him.

‘We are on the corner of Ewing Street and Welshpool Road in the commercial area and it is well lit, so someone must have seen them.’
