CANNING’S multicultural community is encouraged to get involved in this year’s local government elections.

This year’s local government election will have five councillors up for election: one in each ward.

Mayor Paul Ng said there were three ways to get involved in the elections: nominate to be a councillor, enrol to vote and make sure you get your vote in by October 21.

“Ideally, the elected members on a local government council reflect the diversity of the community they serve,” Mr Ng said.

“So I am encouraging all community members to consider if they wish to play a role in determining the future of Canning.”

Those interested in being a councillor should go to to register for the Intending Councillor Seminar on August 22 from 5.30pm, which will let attendees know what to expect as a councillor.
