Council elections for whole community: Canning mayor

Emma GearyCanning Gazette

CANNING’S multicultural community is encouraged to get involved in this year’s local government elections.

This year’s local government election will have five councillors up for election: one in each ward.

Mayor Paul Ng said there were three ways to get involved in the elections: nominate to be a councillor, enrol to vote and make sure you get your vote in by October 21.

“Ideally, the elected members on a local government council reflect the diversity of the community they serve,” Mr Ng said.

“So I am encouraging all community members to consider if they wish to play a role in determining the future of Canning.”

Those interested in being a councillor should go to www.canning.wa.gov.au to register for the Intending Councillor Seminar on August 22 from 5.30pm, which will let attendees know what to expect as a councillor.
