Eight people seriously injured in Wilson hit and run

Major Crash officers are investigating a serious traffic crash in Wilson on December 29 in which eight people were seriously injured and a man allegedly fled from the stolen car he was driving.

Before 4pm, a stolen white Toyota Hilux utility was travelling northeast along Leach Highway when it hit a white Hyundai station wagon that was stopped at a red traffic light on Leach Highway.

The Hyundai struck the rear of a semi-trailer being towed by a Mercedes truck and became wedged under the trailer.

The eight occupants of the Hyundai (6 adults and 2 children), received serious injuries and were taken by ambulance to Royal Perth Hospital and Perth Children’s Hospital.

The driver of the Toyota, a 34-year-old man, received facial injuries and fled the scene.

It is believed he boarded a bus on Leach Highway and travelled to Bentley.

He was later apprehended by police.

Major Crash officers would like to speak to anyone who saw the crash, or the Toyota Hilux prior to the crash.

They would also like to speak to anyone who saw a man with a bloodied face board a bus in the Wilson area.

Anyone with dash cam footage of the area around the above time, or has any information regarding this incident, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report the information online at www.crimestopperswa.com.au.
