A COUPLE married for 72 years have been reunited at a Bentley residential care facility following a brief, enforced separation.

Beryl (93) and Ian Osborne (94) have returned to living together just a few hundred metres from the unit they shared for more than 24 years.

Mrs Osborne had been the main carer for her husband, who lives with dementia, in their independent living unit at SwanCare Bentley Park, with assistance.

Unfortunately, a recent fall meant Mrs Osborne was unable to live independently and care for her husband.

While Mrs Osborne was recovering in hospital, her husband was placed in respite care and the pair missed each other terribly.

Fortunately, the couple have now been reunited in a double room at an aged care facility near their old unit and their son Alan Osborne said he was delighted his parents would be able to continue to live together.

“When I would pick dad up to visit mum in hospital, he would have all his belongings packed ready to go home,” he said.

“We were concerned at the thought of not finding them a place together with the care they need, but we are delighted with result,” Mr Osborne said.

“Having SwanCare’s help with the paperwork and assisting us to find a solution quickly has been a huge relief.”
