ORANA Catholic Primary School in Willetton was on song at this year’s Performing Arts Festival.

Students participating in the eight week festival struck the right note with judges, walking away with four shields and overall top honours.

In its 30th year the festival is an opportunity for Catholic Schools to showcase their talents through music, dance and drama.

Chloe Chang won the Primary Piano Shield, Sienna Giuffre and Shoshana Ramanathan received the Duet Shield on clarinet, Saxophone Trio Isabella Ghobrial, Sienna Giuffre and Levi Munn won the Ensemble Shield and the Orana School Band secured the shield for the most outstanding primary school concert band.

In addition, the school received the prestigious Zenith Excellence Award for the fourth year running.

Awarded to the top metropolitan Catholic Primary School it encompasses their overall excellence and participation in the festival.

Orana Music Specialist Sarah Draper said the school was incredibly proud of its extensive music program and applauded students for their dedication and amazing results.

“Music is an integral part of the Orana curriculum,’’ she said.

“Scientist are discovering many benefits to the brain through learning a musical instrument which extends to language and mathematics.

“We are lucky that music is valued by the whole school community. We have a great team of instrumental teachers that work hard to bring out the best in our students.”
