Foreshore repairs funded

Environment Minister Albert Jacob unveiled $910,000 for foreshore projects throughout the Swan Canning Riverpark last week.

The Canning grant was for construction of drain swales to improve the quality of storm water entering the river system along the Shelley- Rossmoyne foreshore.

The drains will be planted with native vegetation that helpsto filter nutrients and pollutants before they reach the river.

It will be carried out in partnership with the Canning River Residents Environmental Protection Association.

Seven councils received money to rebuild collapsed river walls, control invasive weeds, stabilise riverbanks and revegetate foreshore areas at nine sites in the riverpark.

The City of South Perth received the biggest grant of $500,000 for a river wall replacement near Mends Street Jetty.

These funds will be matched by cash and support from councils and volunteers.
