CANNING Vale student Tracy Martin took top honours at this year’s pet grooming competition at the Perth Royal Show.

As part of the competition Ms Martin had one-and-a-half hours to groom her west highland white terrier Oscar and was judged on coat preparation, nail trimming, clipper technique, scissor technique and breed profile.

Ms Marstin said she never expected to be entering grooming competitions after just six months of training at Bentley’s Polytechnic West.

“I really enjoyed competing; I feel it has inspired me to work in the pet grooming industry,” she said.

Ms Martin was in good company as her lecturer Melissa Van Hoe also took home a trophy, placing third in the extremely competitive poodle competition.
