AFTER more than three decades of giving blood, Lyle Bennet has reached an incredible donation milestone.

The Jandakot resident made his 300th blood donation at Cannington Blood Donor Centre, just in time for National Blood Donor Week from June 9 to 15.

Mr Bennet said he began donating blood in the 1980s when he and a friend saw an advertisement for new donors.

“I was in my mid-20s, healthy and wanted to help people who were in need of blood products,” he said.

He originally donated whole blood, plasma and platelets but now mainly donates plasma fortnightly and said it was wonderful to know he was helping someone in need.

“I know my donation could improve or save their life,” he said.

“I feel really happy when I receive the SMS messages from the Red Cross Blood Service informing me my last donation is now on its way to help someone in need.”
